Laws and Regulations on APC Battery Recycling

The Mercury-Containing and Rechargeable Battery Management Act, or simply Battery Act, was signed into law in 1996. This law created regulations for the processes of disposing of and recycling batteries. By recycling your used APC batteries, you’re not only doing what’s right for the environment and your community, you’re also following the law.

Laws regulating battery recycling vary from state to state, so check out the International Battery Council’s website for a state-by-state breakdown of battery recycling laws.

All the battery recycling processes we use at Battery Recyclers of America are EPA certified and compliant with all federal, state, and local regulations. Contact us for information about our battery recycling options in your area.

Recycling APC Batteries Sustainably

The Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, created the Universal Waste Regulation in order to make clear the safest processes for recycling batteries and other potentially toxic products. Batteries contain heavy metals, acids, and other toxic substances that, if not properly disposed of, can leak into the environment and wreak havoc on your surroundings.

This set of regulations is a good starting point, but many battery disposal companies ship batteries overseas to countries with laxer recycling laws to avoid having to abide by all regulations or pay certain fees and fines.

That’s not how we play at Battery Recyclers of America. We’re committed to sustainability in our disposal and recycling practices, so we don’t cut any corners. We follow all of the EPA’s regulations, so you can know that your batteries are being recycled right.

Identifying APC Batteries

APC produces Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) batteries, which are used as emergency backup power sources for crucial equipment. Depending on the specific model of APC battery you’re looking to recycle, the regulations and processes relating to the recycling process may vary. Because of that, it’s important to identify your APC battery.

Your APC battery should have a model number. This will not be on the front but instead found on a sticker on either the bottom or rear of the product depending on the model and product type. They can vary in size, power capacity, and shape.

If you’re unsure of how to identify your APC battery, give us a call and one of our associates will help you out with the process.

How Long Do APC Batteries Last?

Most APC UPS batteries last for about one to three years. When these batteries can no longer provide any benefit, it is important to replace them, as they’re typically used to back up important equipment such as computers or even entire data centers.

The materials used in these batteries, meanwhile, are recyclable, so make sure to call professional battery waste services that you can trust. Battery Recyclers of America can come and pick up your APC batteries, ensuring that the materials can be of further use.

We can help you to find the best APC battery recycling solutions for your situation. All you have to do is get in touch today, and you could have those used APC batteries out of the way as early as tomorrow.
